Every December, FP Live dedicates one episode to looking back at the year that was. A lot has happened in 2025. U.S. tariffs disrupted the global trading system; wars in Africa, the Middle East, and Europe led to mass displacement and hunger; and Washington and Beijing continued to jostle for dominance in a range of arenas.
A common link among most of the year’s dramatic news events was one leader: U.S. President Donald Trump. So we asked Peter Baker, the New York Times’ chief White House correspondent, to join the show. Baker has closely covered six U.S. presidencies and is also a former foreign correspondent for the Washington Post. Join him in conversation with Ravi Agrawal in the first of a two-part series looking back and ahead as a new year begins.
